I love to check out new restaurants on a regular basis and I rarely get out to North Orange County…I cannot say why because I do have friends in the area and there are many great restaurants I always hear about. I am always hitting South and Central County, but there is a place that my friend in North County has been recommending to me for awhile and we finally delved into her territory to meet her for dinner at the ever so popular Yves’ Bistro Restaurant and Wine Bar!

In the past I have heard several fabulous statements made about the food and service at Yves’ and my friend is regularly ranting about their happy hour that goes on Monday through Saturday from 2-6pm, so I had to go see what this little gem had to offer!

Upon arriving at Yves’ we were promptly seated at our table for our 7:30pm reservation and the server, David that came to our table to introduce himself had quick wit and a humor about him that made our entire evening enjoyable and memorable! David was able to explain any information we needed to know about beverages as well as the menu items and we quickly got down to business!

First I ordered a pear martini which was quite delicious and refreshing made with an Absolut Pear Vodka, which I love. It is a must try if you have never had it! We also ordered a bottle of Merlot from Flora Springs, Napa Valley, California to start! I was impressed to find this wine selection at such a decent price for $34/ bottle! I have been to Flora Springs Winery & have regularly bought their wines at Costco after meeting the grandson of Flora, now wine owner at a Disneyland Wine event! Flora Springs is fabulous and the other selections on Yves’ menu were not too shabby either. There was a large variety of wines to select from, all of them being pretty top notch! This was definitely one of the most impressive wine menus I have seen at a restaurant!

For dinner we moved straight to main courses as I have heard the food amount is ample and we wanted to make sure to save room for dessert! For our entrees we ordered Spaghetti & Meatballs with fresh beef and garlic herbed sausage meatballs served over a homemade marinara sauce at $16, Roasted Duck which came with a roasted half duck with an orange brandy sauce, finished and flamed with Grand Marnier & served with creamy mashed potatoes (but I substituted their truffle fries for mashed potatoes because I heard they were amazing!) and lightly herbed fresh vegetables at $30, and last but not least my husband had a special of the evening which was nicely sliced lamb with a butternut squash.

My favorite entrée of the three was my husbands’; the lamb meat was delicious, juicy, and tender and simply melted in my mouth! I had the duck which I was given an option of crispy or not…My husband wanted crispy because he likes to eat the skin. 🙂 The duck was a bit overcooked for my personal preference with crispy leaving my duck a little less moist than I prefer. It is my fault for not bringing this to their attention, but with an extra helping of the delicious duck sauce, it helped to mend the issue. The spaghetti and meatballs were ordered by our friend and I absolutely loved the sauce, and there was freshly made pasta and homemade meatballs. This dish was lovely!

After devouring our meal, we moved on to one of our most favorite desserts of all time, the Grand Marnier soufflé served with vanilla ice cream and a Grand Marnier sauce. This is one of our favorites and our friend had never tried it before so we were eager for her to have the opportunity to do so! We loved the flavor and texture of this delicacy and made sure to savor every last bite!
Towards the end of our meal, Yve showed up at our table to see how we were doing and was so friendly and made us feel welcome, as though we were guests visiting him in his home! With Yve, we had the opportunity to enjoy some after dinner drinks which included a Cognac, a Port, a fine bourbon, and my personal favorite – a creamy mixture of amaretto, Grand Marnier and Baileys!

The dining room was quite comfortable, yet elegant seating and the menu accompanied an array of Italian and French dishes. Yves’ prices are entirely affordable and there is a large section of wines by the glass! This made me quite happy as I am always looking for great wines and in most restaurants the selections by the glass are minimal, but this variety was definitely pretty impressive! In addition to the dining experience and amazing service, Yves’ also has cooking classes, live music, catering, & weekly specials .

Have you ever been to Yves’ I would love to hear about your experience below! If you have not yet been to Yves’, this is a place you must visit soon! I will be heading back in again shortly myself. 🙂
