Doughnuts seem to really be trending these days and I have jumped on to the doughnut perfection bus and have continued to try a variety of doughnut shops throughout the County of Orange in which I live searching for the perfect fried morsel! While I have tasted a variety of delicious fried delicacies dipped in sugar with a variety of different toppings and fillings from doughnut shops all across town, I am stuck on one magical place of fried goodness and that is Friendly Donuts! Friendly Donuts are located in the city of Orange in Orange County and they have such amazing moist goodness to each and every delicate creation they design! I have been ever so impressed with their selections and consistency of their doughnuts. I truly feel they have mastered their craft! They do not currently have a website, so text in blue is their facebook page.
The first time I visited Friendly Donuts with my friend, Jennifer, I was unsure of what to expect…We had simply both heard about the crazy ube doughnut hype going on over there…The owners of Friendly doughnuts had created a purple fried goodness with the flavor of ube, which is actually a purple colored yam that is a major food source and crop in the Philippines. It is very good for you and is rich in potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants! I first tried ube when I was in Hawaii and fell in love with it in its proper yam form!
When I heard about Friendly Donuts serving these ube doughnuts though, I just had to try them! I still need to go back for their ube stuffed doughnut ice cream sandwiches that have both ube doughnut and ube ice cream!
Friendly Donuts also has a wide selection of cronuts, which is a combination of a doughnut and a croissant, but they prefer to call them dossants. 🙂
On my first visit to Friendly, my friend, Jennifer and I went crazy and each bought a huge box of a variety of doughnuts and tried all of them and of course took home the remains to feed to our spouses. 🙂 In this first batch I tried maple bacon, ube plain, blueberry, red velvet plain, red velvet with frosting, strawberry cream cheese croissant, strawberry and cream filled cronut sandwich, and smore’s cronut. My most favorite treat from this group was the maple bacon doughnut! This doughnut was jam packed full of flavor and the blend of the sweet and salty had my taste buds aroused! All of these doughnuts were pure perfection in their moist and gooey goodness!
My second time visiting Friendly’s doughnuts actually happened when I had a coworker pick them up for me on the way to work. I texted her a simple list of the doughnuts that got me excited when she texted the photos of the cases to me on my phone! On the second Friendly’s round I selected the m&m doughnut, peanut butter cup, ube glazed, blueberry, strawberry, strawberry Pop Tart, and Samoa’s Caramel Deluxe! All of these once again were made fresh and got me very excited when I saw the pink box arrive on my desk at work!
I literally fell in love with the peanut butter cup doughnut and it will hold a place in my heart forever! It is so perfect. It is made with a white cake doughnut, whereas other peanut butter cup doughnuts I have tried in this doughnut craze use a chocolate doughnut…which I think is extreme overkill. The white cake doughnut was moist and fresh and the doughnut inside and out was drenched with peanut butter cup and ooey gooey peanut butter. I have literally craved these every week since and could just go back for a dozen of these!
If you have not yet made it in to Friendly Donuts in Orange, this place is a must visit and soon!! The address for Friendly Donuts is 4442 East Chapman Avenue and they are open 24 hours!!! I love this place and I cannot wait to go back again soon! Have you ever been to Friendly Donuts? Please share your experience in the comment section below and let me know what your favorite doughnuts are there so I can try them as well in the future! 🙂
