A few weeks ago we were invited to dine at Shinkou Sushi and Poke in Laguna Hills conveniently located a few miles from the freeway off of Alicia Parkway. As we drove into the parking lot, Shinkou Sushi was easy to spot. Upon being seated, we were excited to check out what Shinkou had to offer. We love poke bowls, sashimi, and sushi rolls, so we were excited to try it all!
We started our meal by ordering a tall Asahi beer and small nigori sake. I love nigori, as it is a little sweeter than standard sake and has a cloudy color instead of clear. People tend to also give it the nickname, crazy milk. 🙂 I always love nigori with my sushi because I think the flavor goes quite nicely with the fish. It is pretty easy to drink and I know for sake connoisseurs this one is not usually their favorite, but for the non experienced sake drinker, it is pretty amazing. 🙂
We started our meal with a lovely bowl of miso soup which was perfect for the cold weather and a plate of sashimi with a variety of different types of fish. On our sashimi plate pictured here, we had yellowtail, seared ahi, and seared salmon! All of the fish was fresh and delicious. My personal favorite was the yellowtail. 🙂
Next, we ordered a variety of different sushi rolls I share about below to get a taste of a variety of what they prepare at Shinkou Sushi. Everything was fresh and delicious and while some rolls were a bit too spicy for me, spicy is always my husband’s favorite so we had a bit of something we each love to devour! We love sushi!
The Las Vegas Roll ($11.25) contained lightly battered spicy crabmeat and cream cheese topped with spicy tuna and crabmeat mix, finished with a sweet sauce, jalapeno and tempura flakes. I loved this roll. The only part I had to remove was the jalapeno because I am a wimp when it comes to spice. This roll had great flavor!
The Firecracker roll ($11.50) was all for my hubby as I am a non-spicy gal :). This roll was a shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy tuna and finished with a sweet sauce and chili saice. My hubby loved it!
The Shinkou roll ($10.95) is the restaurant’s own specialty. This roll is their own creation and comes with a shrimp tempura roll topped with salmon, masago, and shiso leaf, and then fished with a sweet sauce, spicy mayo and chili sauce. If you are weak with spice, ask for no chili sauce. This roll is a great blend of flavors that make your mouth water for more!
The Rainbow Roll ($11.50) is always one of my personal favorites because it comes with a little bit of each type of fish. There is absolutely no spice or sauce on this roll, but feel free to add wasabi or ginger and soy sauce to spice it up, but it is not needed.:) It comes great just the way it is served. This roll is a California roll topped with a variety of fish, shrimp and avocado. 🙂
The Baked Salmon Roll ($9.50) which is always my favorite roll when I go out for sushi was stuffed with cream cheese because that is the way I order it:) This roll is a California Roll that comes topped with baked salmon and spicy mayo. This dish is always a decadent treat!
The last roll but certainly not the least was Fire in the Hole ($11.50) and it was among the spiciest of the evening and even my hubby’s mouth was burning and he can usually handle it all! This spicy tuna and jalapeno topped with spicy tuna and finished with a sweet and habanero sauce will make your eyes water and your mouth salivate. People that like spicy stuff will love this roll! My hubby could not stop devouring it even though there were tears coming out if his eyes. 🙂
After enjoying our sushi rolls, we tried the poke bowls that Shinkou Sushi prepares. They have a nice sheet on the wall with an explanation of how to put together your poke bowl can be seen below. With these bowls, you can choose one of two sizes, small ($9.45) or large ($12.95). Then you select, sides, proteins, flavors and add extras if you chose! I love poke bowls! These were delicious and I am happy to say I got to enjoy the other half of my poke bowl the next day for lunch!
Something super awesome about Shinkou Sushi and Poke is that not only is the food amazing, they have FREE delivery service when you order $25 or more and live within a 3 mile radius!! I love this factor! They also have an online app in which you can order from and you get 10% off your first order when you sign up!

Sushi is hands down my favorite cuisine on the face of the planet. I eat it at least 3x if not more a week!!!! This place looks bomb, and I would totally drive to Laguna Hills for it, because, I am crazy like that! LOL!
That is awesome! They do have great food!!
