The Sky Ranch Saloon, a new addition to Ruby’s in San Juan Capistrano opened a little less than a month ago and I have the inside scoop for you here.:) The Sky Ranch Saloon is located on the patio area of the Ruby’s restaurant and in addition to being able to order Ruby’s classics from their menu; there is an additional menu of delicious items, along with craft cocktail offerings. There is a full bar outside and live music flowing from the Swallows Inn across the street. The patio definitely has a lively vibe and the menu gives a blend of different chef inspired items including gourmet cheeses and even lobster!
We mulled over the menu as we sat down at our table located right next to the view of downtown San Juan Capistrano. It is a historical area and there are quite a few fun places to check out in the near vicinity. The mission is also located within walking distance.
I started off my dining experience with a selection from the Fresh & Inspired Cocktails section. I got the Metrolink cocktail which had Skyy Vodka, Elderflower, strawberries and lemon swashed with bubbles. This drink was refreshing and perfect for all of the hot and humid weather we have been having lately. My hubby opted for a beer. He got the Stone Red Ale Shark Bite which was an off menu item that had not yet been added. He really liked this beer and he ended up ordering one more later on in our meal.
We decided to proceed with appetizers first and got the Lobster Mac N’ Cheese. This dish is always a must for me whenever I see it on a menu! We shared this dish and it was plenty for two considering we each had an entrée on their way. I was expecting the smooth and creamy goodness of cheese, lobster and fresh cooked pasta and I was surprised when I took a bite and there was an intense kick of spice. I recommended they add spicy on the menu next to this dish for people that are super white bread style like me. This dish definitely had a kick and when I asked what it was they told me it had siracha and chile in the recipe. Honestly, I really did enjoy this dish, but being the total wimp I am I would probably as for no siracha next time. 🙂
Before our main courses came, I ordered a glass of red wine. I selected the Kendall Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Merlot. It was delicious and paired nicely with both entrees to come!
We selected two items to share. The dishes we chose were the Sky Ranch Chicken Sandwich and the Cowboy Prime Flat Iron Steak.
The chicken sandwich was prepared on a baguette with horseradish white cheddar cheese, and sun dried tomato and was accompanied with a lovely amount of tasty tater tots! We both enjoyed this sandwich. I love horseradish and I must say the flavor of horseradish was quite mild in this dish so even if you are not a horseradish fan, I recommend you try it because it is definitely not overpowering.
The Cowboy Prime Flat Iron Steak was a lovely dish that was prepared with a side of asparagus and fresh cooked fingerling potatoes. The steak was rubbed with a Mex spice rub and there was an option of either lime crème or chimichurri. We chose the chimichurri and it was delicious!
I was excited to have leftovers of both dishes to devour in the morning. This truly is one of my favorite things about eating out! I always look forward to my leftovers the next day.
Just as I thought we could not eat another bite, our waitress came out and asked us which shake we were each going to get for dessert…Pull my leg why don’t you! I mean, seriously, how can I say no to a Ruby’s Shake? We made a suggestion that Sky Ranch Saloon should make alcoholic shakes on the patio for their new dining model…I am hoping we see those next time we visit. 🙂
I got the Peanut Butter Cup Shake and I was feeling a bit crazy and added Salted Caramel to it! I loved it! My hubby got the Chocolate Chip shake. We were both in heaven! Tom did have regrets that he ate the whole thing as he was barely able to move, but since I had saved half of my dinner to go, I was just fine slurping up mine!
