A new French restaurant called Bistro Papillote recently opened in the OC Mix shopping and culinary center! When I was invited to come see what the café had to offer, I of course kindly obliged. J I am currently getting ready to make a trip to France myself next month & was excited to eat some French delicacies and get ready for a taste of France next month!

Bistro Papillote just opened this past March 2015 in the OC Mix in Costa Mesa and is very conveniently located in a mecca of several delicious dining options and restaurants throughout the center! Bistro Papillote is located at 3313 Hyland Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA and they are currently open for breakfast, lunch and dinner between the hours of 9:00 am & 6:00 pm. Papillote, designed by Chef Laurent Brazier is also available for private catering events in their space as well as for parties in other event spaces as well!

Bistro Papillote is a second location where this classic French Cuisine can be found, the first location being inside of Macy’s in South Coast Plaza. The location inside of South Coast Plaza, La Cuisine also offers cooking classes, happy hour, and special events. For more details, check out their website here –> La Cuisine, South Coast Plaza.

Chef Laurent’s previous experience spans three Michelin Starred restaurants in France, international resort hotels and country clubs, and the creation of several successful restaurants, including his own Zagat-rated Picayo restaurant in Laguna Beach and La Cuisine Culinary Arts at Macy’s at South Coast Plaza. Bistro Papillote by La Cuisine also plans to serve exclusively French wines expertly curated by Chef Laurent who holds his Advanced Certificate of Wine & Spirit from the London WSET, as well as the level one Sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers.

“For the past four years I have been wanting to open a real French bistro at SOCO, and I finally have the opportunity. I can’t wait to share my vision with the food-focused customers at The OC Mix,” said Chef Laurent Brazier, Executive Chef and owner of Bistro Papillote by La Cuisine. “Our bistro will feature menu items you’d find if you were dining at café in Paris. It will be as close to France as you can get in Costa Mesa!”

We were all anxious to try what Bistro Papillote had to offer and we tried a wide array of items that you can see in my photos here in my article. I had the opportunity to try several items from the menu as well as catering items off menu and for dessert we were served delicious bites from ST Patisserie Chocolat!

Some items I personally sampled were the pesto tomato appetizer, filet mignon crostini, goat cheese endive, crab cake, potato leek soup with crème fraiche, salmon rillette, pan bagnat, muffaletta, croquet monsieur, escargot, duck pate, nutella crepe, citron crepe, tarragon chicken salad, quiche Lorraine, and the goat cheese and mushroom tart!! Everything was prepared fresh and delicious to order and our server Malena was fabulous!

Out of everything I tried my personal favorites were the quiche Lorraine and the salmon rillettes! I also must say Chef Laurent Brazier did a wonderful job at selecting a gorgeous red wine from Argentina which can be seen in my photo along with the other 2 delicious wine selections, a chardonnay and a rose.
The evening was lovely and I ran into some friends that were invited to the event that have used Chef Laurent’s catering services several times in the past. They shared with me what a wonderful job he has done when they have hired him! They said the food and service has been exceptional each time!

I look forward to going to visit Bistro Papillote sometime in the near future with my husband. I still need to try the French Onion soup and the fresh croissants and more! Have you visited Bistro Papillote yet? Please share your experience below! 🙂

Awesome! I am sure you will be impressed Virginia!
The tomato pesto appetizers look good. Would love a trip to France…enjoy!
This place was fabulous and so was France.:)
I have visited the chef’s Macy’s cafe on two occasions for happy hour on Fridays from 5 – 8 pm. There are always 4 or 5 different wines, and occasionally beer available, and 4 or 5 different small plates. Each item is $5.00 and the last time I went, I had coq au vin, a cheese plate, salad, and a glass of wine, which was enough for a light dinner. All dishes were very good. The selection changes every week and you can get a menu beforehand by getting onto their e-mail list. It’s fun.
That is awesome Betty! I still need to visit the one in South Coast Plaza & with the deal you mention it sounds absolutely amazing!! Thank you for all of the info!😀
