Have you ever visited Taqueros Mexican Food in San Juan Capistrano? They reached out to me a few months ago telling me about their restaurant and asked me if I would like to come in and make a few selections to try. I was happy to finally get in to dine at Taqueros 2 weeks ago and I was quite pleasantly impressed. The location is only 10 miles from my home and was in the quaint city of San Juan Capistrano. I enjoy going there to dine or just walk around town.

Taqueros was conveniently located and only a short drive from the freeway exit…maybe a mile or so. When entering Taqueros, there was a large menu of authentic Mexican selections and I was not sure of what to choose. In addition to their regular food menu, they also have a lovely selection of healthy meals, homemade juices, and homemade shakes. I decided I was going to have to dabble in several different categories, so my hubby and I made our selections.

We ended up ordering Chicken Mole Enchiladas, Bean and Cheese Burrito Wet Style, Shrimp Cocktail, Carne Asada Fries, Watermelon Fresca, Horchata Fresca, and delicious Banana Walnut shake!

My husband is a huge fan of mole so he was interested in checking out the secret recipe at Taqueros that our server loved so very much! It is an option to add chicken and we decided to do so. This dish was full of flavor and my husband devoured his plate quite quickly. Although I only got to take 2 bites of this dish before it disappeared, I really liked the sauce. It had a homemade taste like that of mole my student’s parents have made and brought in to share with me in my high school!

I had to have the Bean and Cheese burrito…maybe I sound like a child here and call me crazy but I love this burrito and some places have a great preparation of this item and some places do not! I added cilantro, onions and sour cream to my creation and had it topped with green sauce (the non-spicy sauce) This burrito was super tasty. My only qualm was that I would have liked a bit more cilantro inside. It was great in size and I had enough burrito to make 3 meals out of it!

The Carne Asada Fries were a pretty large size as well, definitely shareable or it can be an entrée for one. The carne asada meat was very tasty and I loved the blend ingredients on this dish. I mean how can you go wrong with guacamole, sour cream, and cheese? 🙂 We got to take this dish home as leftovers for dinner as well!

The shrimp cocktail came out a little later than our meal because it was an afterthought that we ordered late after we had already made our selections, but it was well worth the wait. There were large shrimp floating around in a flavorful tomato soup. I usually have this dish very cold, but at Taqueros it was served room temperature, which my hubby told me is the way it is served in Mexico. 🙂

Our three drinks were so flavorful! The watermelon fresca tasted like someone had taken a watermelon and pressed it through a juicer and served it to me on the spot. I could have easily enjoyed more of this drink, but the hubby got to it. I will have to order my own next time. 🙂 The horchata was a very tasty and authentic rice and cinnamon beverage that we both loved. The banana walnut shake was different than the types of shakes I have had in the past in that it was less thickness or frozen like I am used to. The flavor was amazing through and I finished it down to the last drop.

I hope to go back to visit Taqueros again! The food was fresh and I felt like I was in a local’s restaurant on one of my trips to Cancun. The service was great and the food came out fast!
