I am always looking for new fun date night ideas to do with my husband. Having known each other for 16 years now, there are not many new date night ideas that we can come up with. Earlier this year I was approached by a new business, named Pinot’s Palette in Tustin that invited me in to check out what they had to offer. In having such hectic schedules, this opportunity was put on the back burner for way too long, until last month when we sat down together and looked at the calendar and picked a date and a class that looked good to us! All I can say is that I wish I had not waited this long because this was literally one of my most favorite date nights in a really long time! We got to attend the unique experience of a painting and wine class together! As a matter of fact, I loved this place so much that I ended up buying my best friend a gift certificate to go there for her birthday!

I had never been to a painting and wine class before, but I had seen and heard about them in the past. My brother-in-law and his girlfriend ranted and raved about it to us when they went and their pictures were just too cute!

I was so excited to arrive at Pinot’s Palette as I had heard such good things about them and I had recently seen on facebook that they had won the Tustin Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year award! In addition to their win, being as gracious as the owners Scott and Cherisse Lockerd are, they also decided to offer a $10 off any future reservation for Thurs-Sun public classes until Aug 30th 2015! When we arrived at Pinot’s Palette we were warmly greeted by our instructor, Debra at the front door! She had a huge smile and was super friendly as she showed us around the large room and took photos of us with silly masks and paintings.:) We made our way over to our seats that were in a great location that I had selected when I reserved the class (great tip…try to ask for a seating area….I personally loved being front and center.)) After checking out our seats, we put our belongings in a cubby hole like I remember doing in Kindergarten and wandered over to get an adjustable apron so we could be in style for the occasion and not damage our clothing with paint…or wine. 🙂

We sauntered over to the wine and beer bar where we picked up a bottle of their house red wine which was a lovely red blend made by the winery, Conundrum from Rutherford, California. Seated with our wine, we had water in our cups, paintbrushes and the paints we would need to start painting our masterpiece painting titled, “Starry Night over Hollywood.”

I was pretty nervous about my painting even coming out half way decent because I have never been the artsy type, but with the way that Debra went step by step in telling us the different brushstrokes to take while listening to fun music and sipping on wine, I got the hang of it really fast!

Time flew by so quickly and before I knew it, it was time to leave! During our three hour class, we had two small breaks and I was not ready to leave! I seriously could have done another painting! It was interesting to walk around the room and see people’s paintings because there was a similar look among most of them, but each of them was very different! Some people added different colors than they were instructed and ended up having some really cool detailed looks!

I loved our instructor, Debra. She made everyone feel welcome and at home for the entire evening and was very good about running out to help people if they got stuck. At one point when I was painting one of my swirls in the sky, I did not like the way it came out and she came over quickly to help me fix my paint and start over on the small area!

The paint was very easy to work with and the step by step process helped everything flow nicely! Between sipping wine and rocking out to all different kinds of music from Michael Jackson to Pink, all of my creative juices were flowing!

At the end of the evening, although we were sad the class was over, we had two awesome new paintings ready to go up on our wall! We had such a great time and will definitely be back again soon….especially since I got my best friend a gift card. We need to go back and do a class with her! 🙂
