I love visiting new restaurants and most recently we made our way out to check out the new BLK Earth Sea Spirits that opened in Huntington Beach this past August. We have been to BLK Burgrz located in Ladera Ranch and we were excited to check out their new restaurant that offers a fine dining experience and sits right on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, California! The location is formerly where Spark Woodfire Grill was and many of the serving staff is the same! They definitely have an awesome crew with amazing service!

We made our way out to the gorgeous patio to be seated for dinner. We were quite impressed with the décor, as well as the heating lamps that kept us really warm even thought it was 50 degrees outside! It was seriously the perfect atmosphere.

Our waitress, Cathy promptly came over to assist us with cocktail selections to go with appetizers. For our first cocktails, since “spirits” is in the name of the restaurant and all, we selected the Gin Blossom and the BLK Manhattan. These were both pre-prohibition drinks and it happened to be the day that prohibition had ended, so these seemed fitting for the occasion! 🙂

My Gin Blossom cocktail ($14) was prepared with Hendrick’s Gin, aperol, simple syrup, lemon juice, egg white, and grapefruit bitters. This drink was strong and tasty! I sipped this one slowly as I was sure it would sneak up on me quickly. My husband opted for the BLK Manhattan ($12) which was made up of Templeton Rye Whiskey, Orange bitters, simple syrup, and sweet vermouth. It was a very manly drink with big bold flavors!

To pair with our cocktails we ordered the Edamame ($12) by suggestion of both the manager and our server. This was a fabulous selection and even ended up being my favorite dish of the night! The edamame was pan roasted with garlic, bacon, shallots, sea salt, and ponzu sauce. I will go back to get this again. Yum!!

The other appetizer we selected was the Tuna Tower ($15) which was made with Asian marinated ahi tuna, edamame, fresh mango, and avocado. I always love this appetizer and it was a great start to our meal . I especially loved the mango, which was a unique touch!

Next we ordered two more cocktails, which were the Spicy Cucumber Mule ($10 for standard but cucumber and spicy were customized). The standard mule is prepared with Reyka Vodka, ginger beer, simple syrup and lime juice. My hubby loved this one, but it was a bit spice for me. I had the Strawberry Drop ($12) which consisted of Citron vodka, Cointreau, lemon juice, and Monin Strawberry. Yum!

We ordered two side dishes to go with our main courses, but we asked for them as half orders because there is an option to do so. This is not stated on the menu, but make sure to ask your server because the half orders are plenty to serve 2 people, whereas the full orders serve 4-5. The price of a half order is a slight bit more than half price. Great deal if you ask me. 🙂

Our two side dishes were the Sautéed Asparagus ($8 – full order) and the Mushroom Risotto ($8-full order). Both of these side dishes definitely complimented our meal and we ended up finishing every last bite of each of them!

For our main courses we shared the New York Steak 12 oz ($47) prepared with Akaushi Kobe Style prime cut steak and the Pacific Halibut 8 oz ($35) prepared Oscar style (béarnaise sauce with crab). Both of these dishes went nicely with our side dishes and we were feeling pretty full, but decided to move on to dessert!

Lastly, I ordered an off menu martini, the Key Lime Martini (delicious) to go with my key lime pie! Key lime is one of my personal favorites ever since I made a visit to the Keys with my dad in 2003 where I first tried Key lime cheesecake dipped in chocolate on a stick! The Key lime pie ($8) at BLK was very delicious and it went perfectly with my key lime martini with a graham cracker crust! This was the perfect ending to our dinner! 🙂 I look forward to visiting BLK Earth Sea Spirits again in the near future!

I wish Huntington Beach was closer to WeHo (or traffic in LA did not exist) because there are so many restaurants down there I want to try BADLY!!
Traffic does suck! I feel you cuz I like to come out tour way to WeHo & it is always hard to get out there. Hope you get to try this place soon:)
Dani, We LOVE BLK, too! Also liked it when it was Sparks, as well. The food is indeed excellent, but I’m not so sure that at the prices you described in your essay, they could be termed as a ‘deal.’ Just a thought.
Thanks for the comment Terry. They had a variety of items on the menu, some priced more decent than others. Those edamame were an awesome deal to me!
