I was so excited to check out Inspired Art Wine in Costa Mesa for a date night with my husband! At Inspired Art Wine, they do painting classes with an art instructor as they direct you while you sip some wine. 🙂 I recently met owner, Karen Nguyen at an OC Weekly all-you-can-eat-and-drink event and she had a warm smile on her face and a devoted passion to her newest art studio! She was sampling her delicious rum cocktail which was an iced cocktail that also had coffee! She serves not only wine at her art gallery, but cocktails and beer as well!

Inspired Art Wine is an art studio in which you can pay a set fee to paint a selected piece of art while being instructed by a professional. In addition to painting a fabulous piece of work, you can also order wine, cocktails, and beer, along with some yummy chocolates while your creative juices flow! You even have the option to bring in your own food as well, so my hubby and I decided to bring our own cheese and crackers and make a nice cheese plate to pair with the bottle of wine we selected at the Inspired Art Wine Class.

We purchased a bottle of the house wine. Their house wine label is Duct Tape & we opted for the Cabernet Sauvignon 2014. As many of you know, I love my wine & this was a decent bottle that we both enjoyed! In addition to this bottle, Karen also had me try the California Fruit Wine in a Pineapple flavor. This wine is handcrafted from pineapples and it comes in other fruit flavors as well. They are based out of Carlsbad, California and I was pleasantly impressed. I am not a sweet wine drinker and all of the fruit wines I have ever tasted have been overly sweet, but this one was not. It was delicious! I do plan to make a visit to this winery!!

As we settled in to our seats in class, we got ready to paint along with about 12 other people. I liked the feel of this class it was very intimate. In other paint and wine classes I have done, we were with a large group of people (about 50 in the class). The intimate setting of this class made us connect much better with our instructor and it was very easy to ask him questions and have him assist when needed.

Our art instructor, Kenny McBride was warm and friendly and he even shared with us about his upcoming wedding! He was very patient and willing to help when I asked him to help me fix a few mistakes I made on my painting. He actually has his own painting studio in Downtown Long Beach and has shown several galleries in the local area. He attended high school at a school of the arts and he has been painting since he was a small child. He mentioned to me he was around the age of 5 when he started! He was very talented and passionate about his work and we were happy to meet him at the OC Weekly event as well as to have him as our instructor for our class!

The painting that we painted as scheduled for the evening, per the calendar online was called “Lavender Trees.” I chose this specific class because I really liked the painting and our home has soft shades of blue, purple, lavender and periwinkle & the colors of this painting I knew would go lovely on our wall.

The beauty of these classes is that you can make the painting your own. As I walked around class on a break, I saw that everyone’s painting looked entirely different even though we were all taking instruction from Kenny. My hubby that loves to paint in his spare time as a hobby got really into his painting and got all Monet with the paintbrush spraying crazy color across the canvas and using pointillism as well as quick brush brushstrokes to dress his canvas in a variety of different colors that differed from the norm. He was praised by our instructor and continued to blow us all away. 🙂

Our painting class began at 6:30 on a Friday evening and concluded at 8:30pm. We had a great time and I would definitely visit Inspired Art Wine again for another painting adventure! No artistic experience is required for these classes, just a need to have some fun! I have seriously never been an artist and I was pretty proud of how my painting turned out!
