Last month the new Oggi’s in Mission Viejo finally opened their doors and I was overly excited to know that a new restaurant was arriving in my neighborhood! There are not many restaurants in my area and when there is a tasty place coming, it is known. Many of you may have read my review about my visit to Oggi’s Pizza in Garden Grove this past February, which I thoroughly enjoyed. If not, check it out in link –> HERE.
We had been waiting for Oggi’s to open as we really missed having a fun sports bar/pizza kind of place in town and we do like Oggi’s food. Shortly after the Mission Viejo location opened I was contacted to schedule a visit. I waited a few months for the staff to get on their feet and get used to day to day operations. Upon arriving at Oggi’s at 7:30 pm, the restaurant was bustling with a variety of customers including an entire team chowing down on pizza after their game!
We opted to start our dinner with a beer for my hubby and a glass of wine for myself. My husband selected the Black Magic Stout as he always loves this type of beer. He is a stout guy and he did love this particular beer. Oggi’s even brews their own beer! This particular beer has won a variety of awards from so many competitions! This beer is a stronger version of a traditional Dry Irish Stout. This hearty stout is layered with flavors of roasted barley, chocolate and coffee. This was totally up his alley.
I opted for a glass of 19 Crimes Shiraz from Central Victoria, Australia that was available for $9 as a glass or $33 for a bottle. This wine was quite flavorful and I really enjoyed it with my meal. It was not too fruity and was a nice full-bodied red.
To start off our meal we got a salad, not only so we could say we got something healthy, but to be quite honest it sounded so delicious and my body was craving some greens! I insisted on sharing the Balsamic Chicken Salad, which comes in two sizes. We got the smaller size because we had main courses coming soon. This salad was a Spring mix blend with grilled chicken breast, Gorgonzola cheese, candied walnuts, and tossed with Oggi’s homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing. This salad was full of flavor and we loved the blend of ingredients.
We ordered two dishes to share for dinner which were a calzone and a pizza. There are a variety of different entrée items at Oggi’s that include salads, pastas, pizzas, steak, fish and more, but on this particular evening we were craving cheese!
For the Calzone menu, there is a Traditional Calzone or a Custom Design menu. We designed our own flavor of calzone and selected ingredients from options that included a variety of different sauces, meats, veggies and cheeses! We opted for pineapple and Canadian bacon with their homemade pizza sauce and ricotta, mozzarella and fontina cheeses. This item was a delicious. We both had not had a calzone for a really long time and we really enjoyed it!
We also ordered a pizza because that is what Oggi’s is known for. There are many different selections of pizzas you can choose from that are created by Oggi’s or you can also design your own pizza. We ended up getting one of the pizzas created by them. We selected the March Madness because we were feeling pretty cheesy! March Madness is the five-cheese pizza! It is normally brushed with a garlic olive oil sauce, but we opted for Oggi’s homemade pizza sauce instead and it is topped with Mozzarella, Fontina, Parmesan, Feta and mild Goat cheese. We definitely made the right choice and this pizza was gone before we left the restaurant. We got the small pie, but there is a choice of a large or a small.
A small pie and a calzone, along with the salad was the perfect amount of food for us and we were too full for dessert. We will have to try dessert next time though. There was a great variety of delicious items!
This location owned by Kanwal and Helen Mundy is bustling with customers and it is definitely the new hotspot in the quiet Mission Viejo community. It is nice to have a lively sports bar with tasty pizza and a variety of other entrees so close to home! Hope you get a chance to check out this new location soon!
