There are two fabulous dates that are happening this week!! Thursday, August 29th is National Cabernet Day & Saturday, August 31st is National Bacon Day which officially gave the store, Beverages N’ More ( BevMo) a wine, beer, spirits and liquor store a fabulous excuse to create the holiday “Cabacon Day” for 2 of the most fabulous items ever!! I am so excited to be a partner with BevMo in sharing this with you because Cabacon day is definitely a day to celebrate!! Cabacon Day is today, August 30th!! Our society is bacon obsessed and you can never ever go wrong with red wine!!

BevMo has introduced several items they consider to be a “must do” for Cabacon celebrations that I have been given the opportunity to enjoy and share with all of you! In this post you will also have the opportunity to win one of two $25 gift cards and sample some of these fabulous items yourself! Keep reading my friends…

For Cabacon Day, Wilfred Wong, resident wine expert of BevMo has brought to the table some lovely bacon pairing Cabernet Sauvignon wines, as well as several delectable bacon and chocolate bars and a gorgeous Smoked Gouda Bacon Cheese from Yancey’s Fancy New York Artisan Cheese! When you are given the opportunity to sample these delectable bits of heaven from this amazing list, you will see why celebrating Cabacon Day is a must with these amazing yummies!

The first of three wines recommended for Cabacon Day include a Main & Geary Cabernet Sauvignon, 2010 (great year I might add!!!) from Napa Valley, California. This wine has a 91 point rating and has loads of ripe black currant and cassis flavors. This is one that is sure to make your mouth pucker and if you are anything like me this is a good thing. The aftertaste is smooth and velvety and makes you want to desire another sip. This bottle sells for $19.95 & with your Club Bev card; you can purchase it for $17.95!

The second wine suggested for Cabacon Day is Longhand Cabernet Sauvignon, 2011 from the Alexander Valley in Northern California and has a 93 point rating (tip: wines above 90 ratings are supposed to be the best!) This bottle is quite complex in flavor and texture and has hints of fruit flavors including plum, boysenberries, and dried orange peel! This is a very nice tasting wine that goes great with bacon as it has very complex flavors that can bring out the flavor in the bacon and an extra hint of smokiness in the Smoked Gouda Bacon Cheese. 🙂 This bottle is priced at $29.95 and with Club Bev; you can purchase a bottle for $24.95.

The third and last wine specifically selected by Wilfred Wong for Cabacon Day is Althenaeum Cabernet Sauvignon from the year 2010. As a 91 point, this wine definitely holds it’s own, but is quite lovely paired with dark chocolate with bacon bar or milk chocolate with bacon bar. The chocolate takes away the bitterness of the wine and the wine breaks down the fat of both the bacon and the chocolate. Smooth in flavor, this wine solidifies the palate with flavorful black fruit and sweet tannins, and even a hint of oak in the finish. (Oak is my personal favorite) This wine was my favorite of the three, but you can really not go wrong with any of these three bottles…The price for this bottle is $39.95 and with Club Bev, you can get this bottle for $32.95!

The 2 chocolate bars show in this article are rich in both bacon and chocolate and are made by Vosge’s Chocolate! I had the opportunity to try the Mo’s Milk Chocolate Bacon Bar and the Mo’s Dark Chocolate Bacon Bar. These were both very tasty with the Cabernet Sauvignon varieties above that were selected by Wilfred Wong! See for yourself…
My advice?? Good thing you ask…I recommend buying each of these three bottles, a slab of Smoked Gouda with Bacon Cheese, and both of these chocolate bars and one other item not mentioned above…B. Toffee (best toffee in town and it is handmade in Newport Beach by the fabulous Betsy Thagard..) For more details about B. Toffee and where to purchase it, go to link here: B.TOFFEEBYBETSY

I believe that in purchasing these three bottles of wine, 2 chocolate bars, cheese slab, and the B. Toffee and having a little get together/ Cabacon Day party at your house, you will be in heaven!! Red wine naturally breaks down fat, hence bacon cheese, and candy are all perfect together!
