If you like to travel and you are looking for a credit card, there are so many different options out there today. One credit card I would like to recommend for travel fanatics is the Alaska Airlines Credit Card. I recently traveled to Alaska and only paid for one ticket, and got a FREE companion fare ticket for only taxes and fees! That is right, you heard me!! This is a BOGO travel credit card and you accrue miles! Well, how does this work? Great question you ask, allow me to explain below!! All pictures in this post are from my recent trip to Alaska! 🙂

I have always shied away from any credit card that had an annual fee, so I never would have ever given this card a chance since it does have a $75 annual fee, but since this credit card also gives you a FREE airline ticket each and every year with no blackout dates, no matter how much you purchase, it makes it sooo worth it!!

Upon signing up with the Alaska Airlines credit card, you get a perk of 25,000 bonus miles just for signing up and being approved. There are always special promos going on when you sign up with this card. When I signed up, my first year of the annual fee was waived and right now there is a current promotion through August 31, 2014 to also get an additional 2,500 miles! Therefore if you sign up now, you get 27,500 airline miles to use toward any flights you choose in the future.

In addition to the free miles you receive to use towards any flight, you get a FREE Companion ticket yearly from this credit card. What this means is that you pay full fare for one ticket when booking 2 seats and for the second ticket, you only pay taxes and fees which amounts to $118 and the awesome thing about this ticket is that it has absolutely no blackout dates!! Believe me, it is awesome! My husband and I just came home from Alaska at the best season to go (Summer Solstice – sun goes down and pops right back up again…24 hours of daylight) and tickets last minute were $980 a person and I paid $1098 for the both of us. That was a pretty sweet deal!

Another perk with this card is that you receive 3 miles for each dollar spent on Alaska Airlines purchases which includes tickets, vacation packages, in flight purchases, and cargo. You also receive one mile for each $1 spent on all other purchases with this card. As you all probably know, the money you spend on your credit card throughout the year adds up quickly! It is important to make sure that you pay all of the bills you possibly can on your credit card to accrue massive points. I am living proof that these points add up because I currently have 133,000 miles & I am purchasing a first class ticket to Rome, Italy for next summer with 120,000 of them to renew my 10 year vows with my hubby!

One last awesome factor about this credit card is that when using your miles that have accrued you can select from any one of the Alaska Airlines 14 different airline partners. This is awesome in that you have more selection and variety available for flights!

I hope this article has helped you to make your selection on which credit card to select if you love travel like I do! Do you have any other credit cards you recommend for travel? I am currently trying out the Capital One card, so I am sure I will have more information to share about that one in the future as well. 🙂

I have a southwest card for similar reasons
Very cool! Does the Southwest card give companion fare tickets as well?:)
Very cool… who doesn’t want a free flight?? That’s a big savings!
It is pretty awesome! Companion fares rock!!:)
I got my Alaska Airlines Visa card two years ago and have used mileage for four round trips to Houston (we spend our winters in south Texas) so far. LOVE the card!
Very awesome Laurel!! I love to hear stories like that!!:) It is a great card!!:)
That sounds like a great deal, but I am anti-credit card at this stage of my life. Lol. Free flight sounds pretty good though
Anti-credit card? I cannot imagine not having a credit card. I am always anti-cash lol:)
Lol. Yeah it’s unpopular I know. But I have learned that I cannot beat credit card companies at their own game, so I don’t use them….. Paid them all off and cut them up. What I can’t pay cash for, I learn to live without. It’s a personal thing
That makes total sense Veronica! I have friends that are in the same situation. It is better to be smart about it if they have been a problem in the past:) Cheers to you my friend! 😉
Wow, I didn’t know that Airlines do offer this. Thank you for the share. Will be searching Airlines at my place offering just like this.
It is a pretty awesome credit card!:) Enjoy!!;)
That’s a great deal – do you know if you have to be a US resident to get one?
That is a fabulous question! I would visit the link in my article and give them a call to ask:) Let me know what they say! 🙂
I’ve had my alaska credit card since 1994. It was the first card I got when I moved to Oregon for college. I accrued thousands of miles flying back and forth from Portland to Otange county. We were able to use those miles to spend on 2 free flights to Thailand for our honeymoon. Highly recommend!!
Stephanie, Thanks so much for the comment. I am glad that you have had such a great experience with the Alaska Airlines credit card:) I love this story. Thank you for sharing. This is exactly the kind of story I think my readers would love to hear! 🙂
