Slater’s 50/50 Revisited – Check Out NEW Menu Items Coming July 1st And A Grand Opening

While in Ireland earlier this June, I received an invite via email to attend an event at the Slater’s 50/50 Huntington Beach restaurant to introduce the New Slater’s 50/50 Menu items that are being released July 1^st, 2013.  I was very excited for this invitation and happily sent my RSVP.  I am no stranger to Slater’s 50/50 in that I have tried these juicy delectable burgers, appetizers, and deserts several times in the recent past. Slater’s 50/50 pride themselves on being “All about the bacon!!”  Almost every item at this restaurant can be ordered with bacon…they even have bacon brownies!  There are two exciting events coming up on July 1^st for Slater’s 50/50. They are opening a new Slater’s 50/50 in Rancho Cucamonga & they are going to debut the new menu items I will introduce below at all of the stores. 

Something really exciting about this event was that we go to meet “THE Scott Slater” of Slater’s 50/50! He was such a nice guy. See some pictures of me with him in this article:)

We first started off with a Kale Quinoa Salad.  This was probably the only lighter healthy menu option we had for the night, but let me tell you it had bold flavors and I am not usually a kale person and I loved it!!  The Kale Quinoa Salad had flavor bursts of lemon throughout which demolished the bitterness of the kale for me.  The red quinoa, red onion, and roasted sunflower seeds along with with a lemon-garlic tahini lemon flavored dressing was a burst of flavor in my mouth.  I would definitely order this again if I was feeling like I wanted something a little more light and refreshing. I was so happy devouring the greens with all of the bacon to come… 🙂 

Next we were introduced to the Twice Grilled Cheese Sandwich which boasted an ample amount of two different yummy cheddar cheese not only in-between the two light fluffy slices of artisan sourdough bread, but also grilled on the outside of the bread to form a toasty brown cheese crust over the bread!  This was served with a house made tomato basil soup.  I love this combo as it makes me think of childhood. 

Each menu item seemed to set their own stage and give their own performance under the spotlight because each time an item came out, there was oohing and aahing and so much excitement… Next an old favorite came to visit us, “The Old Timey.” The Old Timey is a classic American burger with Sterling Silver ground beef, American cheese, thick cut bacon, grilled onions, green leaf lettuce, tomato, & 1,000 Island dressing on a white brioche…It is decadent!

Three shakes were introduced to me on this grandiose evening in surf city Huntington Beach.  I had the opportunity meet Bananas Foster, Smore’s, & Almond Joy milkshakes.  These were all splendid in flavor as they literally felt orgasmic in my mouth as the flavors of ice cream chocolate vodka, amaretto, bananas, coconut, and marshmallows seeped into my taste buds.  All three of these shakes were awesome, but my favorite had to be the Bananas Foster!  Props to my friend, Patty that was sitting next to me that offered me her shake to finish as well as she was trying to save some space for the other new menu items to come…

So after having, “The Old Timey” we were introduced to the “New ‘Merica Burger.”  This burger was the burger of the month at one point back in July 2012 and was called “The ‘Merica burger” …it definitely boasts in flavor  in that it creates happiness in your mouth as your taste buds dance after being oversaturated with flavor.  This burger is made with 100% ground bacon, thick cut bacon, a sunny side up fried egg, bacon Thousand Island dressing, and bacon cheddar cheese on a pretzel bacon roll fresh from a bakery that makes these just for Slater’s 50/50 based out of Santa Monica. Wow, this was intense!  I have a friend that boasts about eating one of these as a 1 pound burger ( you can pick the size you want at Slater’s 50/50) He did not feel too hot after he ate the whole thing, but there are crazy people like him that are willing to take on these types of dares…not me..:) 

The last item, but definitely one of my favorites was the Bacon Blondie Brownie.  All I can say is A M A Z I N G!!!! This was 2 huge brown sugar-vanilla blondies with a huge scoop of creamy peanut butter icing sandwiched in-between, chocolate, candied bacon & vanilla ice cream!  I was so pleasantly impressed with this dessert, but after eating everything I had tried, I had to take this home! I will definitely be enjoying this one as a treat over the next few days!!!  I was so excited to bring some leftovers to my high school students…They will be the true testers today of this warm moist goodness…I cannot wait to see what they think!
